Project Description

Fold the Flock: Eclipse was a large scale origami installation and collaborative public project developed in partnership with the Pennsylvania Audubon Society, the National Audubon Society and The Lost Bird Project (an arts-based environmental organization). Created in early 2014 as part of a series of initiatives designed to commemorate  the centennial anniversary of the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon, this project entailed working with with Audubon educators to produce graphic and written materials that were incorporated into educational programming conducted at nineteen local public schools. The resulting origami contributions of students and residents were integrated into a suspended ceiling sculpture representing an ascending flock of Passenger Pigeons. The project served as a visual memorial to a lost species that also provided educational content on issues related to the needs of common and threatened birds today.
